Where the price you see comes from

Why the headline price is the best ask, and what stops one odd order setting it.

The price shown for a market is the lowest resting sell order on our own order book — the price you would actually pay to buy right now, rather than the price of some trade that happened earlier.

The index check

That best ask is checked against an index reference, the median price across major external venues. If the best ask has drifted more than 200 basis points from the index, we show the index price instead. So a single off-market sell order cannot set the price the whole exchange publishes.

Why our price is not identical to another exchange’s

The index reference is a median across venues, but the price you trade at is our own order book, so it moves with the liquidity resting here. The 24-hour change shown beside a price is always computed against the price displayed, so the two never disagree.

The candles on the trading chart show the index price — real prices from reference venues, aggregated per interval, labelled as the index. Your own fills always print on our book.
