Passkeys

A passkey is a credential your device unlocks with your fingerprint, face or device PIN. On EBCMX a passkey is a second factor at sign-in — it does not replace your password, and there is no passwordless sign-in. You always enter your password first.

Two kinds of passkey

• A cross-device passkey travels with you — a synced passkey, your phone, or a security key. It works on any device you sign in from.
• A device-bound passkey works only in the browser it was created in. You may have one of these, and you need either an authenticator app or a cross-device passkey alongside it, so that losing that one browser does not lock you out.

The Master Key

A passkey can also act as your Master Key, which is what unlocks the Global Settings Lock immediately instead of waiting out the delay. You must register a Master Key before you can turn that lock on.

Removing a passkey stops it signing you in and stops it unlocking your settings. You can add it again later.
