About Ethereum

Ethereum is a programmable blockchain that runs smart contracts — programs executed exactly as written by every node on the network — and ETH is its native asset, the unit that pays for that computation.

Ethereum was proposed in 2013 and launched in 2015. What distinguishes it is that the network does not only record transfers, it executes code, and every node runs the same code and arrives at the same result. Fees are denominated in gas, a unit measuring how much work an operation costs, and what a transaction pays is the gas it consumes priced in ETH. Fees are commonly quoted in gwei, one billionth of an ETH; the smallest unit is the wei.

Ethereum ran on proof of work until 2022, when it moved to proof of stake in a change usually called the Merge. Blocks are now proposed by validators who lock up ETH as collateral rather than by miners expending computation, and a validator that signs invalid or conflicting data can lose part of that collateral. The change altered how blocks are produced and how new ETH is issued; it did not change the balances or the contracts already on the network.

Most tokens people hold on Ethereum are not separate blockchains — they are smart contracts deployed on it, and that includes many stablecoins. The widely used interface for those contracts is ERC-20, which is why a wallet that handles one ERC-20 token can usually handle another. It also means that sending such a token needs ETH in the same account to pay the gas, even when the asset being sent is not ETH, and an account holding tokens but no ETH cannot move them.

Anyone can deploy a contract to Ethereum, and once deployed it runs whenever a transaction calls it, with no operator keeping it running and none able to switch it off. That property is what applications built on the network rely on, and it is also why a mistake in a deployed contract cannot simply be patched in place. Changes to the protocol itself go through a public proposal process and take effect only when the software running the network is upgraded.

Ethereum is priced at 2,515.22, the multi-venue index reference. No sell order is resting within the index band on the EBCMX ETH/USDT order book right now, so the index price is published instead of a price from our own book. Ethereum is up 1.95% over the last 24 hours.

Across major venues over the last 24 hours Ethereum traded between 2,433.77 and 2,667.00. ETH/USDT volume across major venues over the same window was 638,707,908.50 USDT.

How is the ETH price on EBCMX determined?

The price shown is the lowest resting sell order on our own order book, checked against a multi-venue index reference. If the book's best ask drifts more than 200 basis points from that reference, the index price is shown instead — so one off-market order can never set the published price.

Which ETH pairs can I trade?

Every open ETH market is listed above with its live price and 24-hour volume. Each one links straight to its order book.

Which network should I use to deposit ETH, and what is the minimum?

Use any network in the deposit table above. Each row shows the confirmations we wait for and the minimum that credits. A deposit sent on an unlisted network will not credit.

Is the EBCMX price the same as on other exchanges?

Not exactly. The index reference is the median across major venues, but the price you trade at is our own order book, so it moves with the liquidity resting here.

What affects the price of Ethereum?

The ETH price moves with supply and demand across the venues where it trades, with the liquidity resting in those order books, and with wider market conditions and news. EBCMX publishes what its own book and the index reference show, and does not forecast where the price goes next.

What fees do I pay to trade Ethereum?

Spot trading is maker-taker. Your rate resolves from whichever of your 30-day trading volume or your assets on platform gives you the better tier, and the published schedule is the one settlement charges by. The entry rates for each ETH market are listed above.

How do I buy Ethereum on EBCMX?

Create an EBCMX account, complete identity verification, then deposit on one of the networks listed above. Once the deposit credits, place an order on a ETH market and it executes against the live order book.

Can I withdraw Ethereum, and what does it cost?

Yes. A ETH withdrawal goes to an address you have added and confirmed first. A withdrawal fee applies per network and is shown to you before you confirm the withdrawal.

What order types can I use for Ethereum?

Market and limit orders, with time-in-force GTC, IOC, FOK or GTD, and a post-only flag on limit orders. Stop and take-profit triggers are available on ETH markets, as are OCO and OTO order groups.

Is there a minimum order size for Ethereum?

Yes. Each ETH market publishes its own minimum order size along with its price and quantity precision. Those limits are enforced when the order is placed, so an order below the minimum is rejected rather than accepted.

How long does a Ethereum deposit take to credit?

A ETH deposit credits once it reaches the required number of network confirmations. That count differs per network and is listed in the deposit table above, so how long it takes depends on the network you send from.

Do I need identity verification to trade Ethereum?

Yes. An account must complete identity verification before it can trade ETH or withdraw it. Documents are reviewed by our team, not by an automated system.
