About USD Coin

USD Coin is a stablecoin — a token designed to hold a constant value, in this case one US dollar — issued by Circle, a regulated US financial company, and first released in 2018.

Circle states that every USDC in circulation is backed by an equivalent value held in cash and short-dated US Treasury holdings, and that it publishes regular third-party attestation reports on those reserves. Those statements and reports come from the issuer and the firms it appoints, and the reports are the document to read for what the reserves consisted of on a given date. A fiat-backed stablecoin holds its target because the issuer redeems it at that value; nothing in the token itself forces the price.

USDC is not a bank deposit and it is not insured. Its value rests on the issuer meeting redemption at the stated value and on the market treating that expectation as sound — the terms on which every fiat-backed stablecoin holds its target. The token pays the holder no interest. These are properties of the instrument rather than a comment on any particular issuer, and they are why a stablecoin is described as designed to hold a value rather than guaranteed to.

USDC is issued as a token on many blockchains. The same unit of account exists as a separate contract on each network, and those contracts are not interchangeable in transit: USDC sent over one network arrives only at an address on that network. The network a transfer is sent on therefore has to be one the receiving address accepts, and sending over a network the recipient does not support is the most common way people lose it.

Because its target value is stable, USDC is widely used as the quote side of trading pairs — quoting a market in USDC gives a price that moves with the base asset instead of with two volatile assets at once. It is also used to hold value between trades without moving funds off a blockchain. Both uses follow from the design target itself, not from any yield or return attached to holding the token.

How is the USDC price on EBCMX determined?

The price shown is the lowest resting sell order on our own order book, checked against a multi-venue index reference. If the book's best ask drifts more than 200 basis points from that reference, the index price is shown instead — so one off-market order can never set the published price.

Which USDC pairs can I trade?

Every open USDC market is listed above with its live price and 24-hour volume. Each one links straight to its order book.

Which network should I use to deposit USDC, and what is the minimum?

Use any network in the deposit table above. Each row shows the confirmations we wait for and the minimum that credits. A deposit sent on an unlisted network will not credit.

Is the EBCMX price the same as on other exchanges?

Not exactly. The index reference is the median across major venues, but the price you trade at is our own order book, so it moves with the liquidity resting here.

What affects the price of USD Coin?

The USDC price moves with supply and demand across the venues where it trades, with the liquidity resting in those order books, and with wider market conditions and news. EBCMX publishes what its own book and the index reference show, and does not forecast where the price goes next.

What fees do I pay to trade USD Coin?

Spot trading is maker-taker. Every USDC market here sits on the stablecoin, pegged token and FX schedule, where your tier follows your 30-day trading volume alone, and the published schedule is the one settlement charges by. The entry rates for each USDC market are listed above.

How do I buy USD Coin on EBCMX?

Create an EBCMX account, complete identity verification, then deposit on one of the networks listed above. Once the deposit credits, place an order on a USDC market and it executes against the live order book.

Can I withdraw USD Coin, and what does it cost?

Yes. A USDC withdrawal goes to an address you have added and confirmed first. A withdrawal fee applies per network and is shown to you before you confirm the withdrawal.

What order types can I use for USD Coin?

Market and limit orders, with time-in-force GTC, IOC, FOK or GTD, and a post-only flag on limit orders. Stop and take-profit triggers are available on USDC markets, as are OCO and OTO order groups.

Is there a minimum order size for USD Coin?

Yes. Each USDC market publishes its own minimum order size along with its price and quantity precision. Those limits are enforced when the order is placed, so an order below the minimum is rejected rather than accepted.

How long does a USD Coin deposit take to credit?

A USDC deposit credits once it reaches the required number of network confirmations. That count differs per network and is listed in the deposit table above, so how long it takes depends on the network you send from.

Do I need identity verification to trade USD Coin?

Yes. An account must complete identity verification before it can trade USDC or withdraw it. Documents are reviewed by our team, not by an automated system.
